Lifting Spirits ~ Touching Lives
The annual Volunteer EXPO, sponsored and coordinated by the NCJW Volunteer Network, was held at the Livingston Mall on Tuesday, October 28. The EXPO featured a large variety of local nonprofit agencies, with a diverse offering of volunteer opportunities. Visitors to the mall enjoyed finding out the many ways they can get involved in community service. The success of this event resulted from the generosity of EXPO sponsors and the hard work of dedicated volunteers.
Marion Finkel, M.D. and
Prudential provided sponsorship, with Prudential sending Janet Saulter-Hemmer and employee volunteers to help out at the fair. Simon Management graciously opened the Mall to the EXPO.
Lifting Spirits ~ Touching Lives would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of event co-chairs Beverly Trust and Mo Menzel, as well as NCJW volunteers who helped publicize and work the day of the event. We are also grateful to Helene Dreskin and Linda Jacobs, NCJW Volunteer Network co-chairs, Roberta Schmidt, Director of Community Services and Gail Sample, Coordinator of Volunteer Services for helping to make this a terrific EXPO.
The agencies that participated were pleased with the response from those interested in volunteering and the opportunity to share information about their services. The diversity of attendees to the EXPO included homemakers, teens and retirees from all walks of life. Some agencies reported as many as 50 people visiting their tables, although attendance was affected by the blustery, winter-like weather.
Individuals looking to volunteer were eager to make contact with the variety of organizations represented. Agencies included those focused on assistance to children in need, the elderly, special needs students and people in crisis, as well as hospices, organizations focused on the arts, disaster response, animal welfare and more. In addition to the presence of NCJW Volunteer Network and the Linda & Rudy Slucker Center for Women, volunteers at the NCJW Advocacy table were on hand, urging people to
Get Out to Vote.
