About Us
History
The Volunteer Network (TVN,
formerly the Volunteer Placement Bureau) was established as a
volunteer center in 1983 to recruit and refer volunteers to perform
specific tasks in a broad range of nonprofit agencies servicing
the Essex County community. This non-sectarian program now services
over 150 non-profit agencies with hundreds of volunteers each
year. The NCJW TVN also assists in building public awareness and
understanding of the importance of volunteerism by sponsoring
a professional volunteer managers association, the Essex County DOVIA (Directors of Volunteers in Agencies);
publishing a yearly guide to volunteering for both teens and adults;
sponsoring an annual Volunteer Fair, and advertising through local
newspapers, magazines, TV stations and radio.
The Volunteer Network is sponsored
and funded by the National Council of Jewish Women, Essex County
Section. Founded in 1893 by Hannah G. Solomon, the National Council
of Jewish Women is the oldest national Jewish women's volunteer
organization in America. Today, NCJW continues its leadership in
volunteerism by helping people of all races, religions and economic
backgrounds through a combined approach of community service, advocacy,
education and research.
