Agency Overview:

Cerebral Palsy of North Jersey (CPNJ) is dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with disabilities and other special needs by supporting personal growth, independence and participation in the community. Not limited to serving consumers with cerebral palsy, we provide specialized programs to meet a wide range of educational, therapeutic and social needs of people with various disabilities.

Volunteer Needs:

  • CPNJ is looking for crafty volunteers to sew much needed clothing protectors for adults with disabilities. CPNJ would provide materials that volunteers would pick up from one of our adult day programs - in Irvington, Livingston, Wayne or Orange. Clothing protectors are made out of towels and fasten in the back with ties or snaps.

  • Join the "Brush with Greatness" art program. This program introduces adults with disabilities to famous works of art through a corresponding art project. Volunteers are needed to help plan the lessons and provide one-on-one assistance with adults with disabilities as they create their work of art.
  • The program takes place 9:30 - 11:30 am on the second Wednesday of the month in Irvington, on the third Wednesday of the month in Wayne, and on the fourth Wednesday of the month in Orange.
  •  Join the "Briefcase to Bookcase" reading program. Volunteers are invited to read to our students with disabilities one-on-one or in small groups at Horizon School in Livingston.
  • The program takes place 12:15-12:55 pm and 1:00-1:40 pm most weekdays.
  • Scheduling is flexible. Volunteers that agree to participate will receive a calendar via email each month and just click on the date that works for them. We ask volunteers to pledge to read at least once a month.

NEW

  • Volunteer fluent in Arabic is needed to translate for new student with special needs. Volunteer will spend time with the student in the classroom translating phrases for the teacher. Volunteer will also assist with communication with the parent. The school day is M-F 9:15-2:15. Volunteer one hour once a week or for a full day five days a week! We are completely flexible with your schedule.
